MINI's NEW Electric Car

MINI joins the electric world with their new hatchback model, the MINI Electric.

The MINI hatchback will soon be offered with an electric engine. The car will be called the MINI Electric, using the same 3-door design as it's petrol/diesel powered sister. The front radiator grille, side scuttles and fuel cap each contain the unique logo, symbolising the vehicle's electric capability. If desired, some of these logos can be finished in a bright yellow paintwork.

A 5.5” digital dashboard is a new addition for the model. It will display information about the current charge level if plugged in, as well as battery charge, road speed, system notifications/messages and driving modes.

Under the hood is a 32.6 kWh battery outputting 184 HP (maximum) and 270NM (maximum) of torque. 0-62mph takes just 7.3 seconds, which MINI notes is nearing the performance of their Mini Cooper S hot-hatch.

“Close to perfect weight distribution” - a bold claim from the manufacturer. According to MINI, a lower centre of gravity and less weight on the front wheels, due to strategic battery placements and suspension technology, is what gives the model this ideal distribution. To harness the go-kart characteristics of the car, drivers can use SPORT - one of four modes, to sharpen throttle response. GREEN and GREEN+ will work to acheive more economical driving, by limiting things such as power and on-board electrics like Air Conditioning.

The MINI Electric also has an acoustic pedestrian protection system that produces a noise at low speeds. This gives surrounding road users extra awareness of the vehicle, and obeys the new EU Regulations.

Standard pricing starts at £24,400 OTR including the Government’s £3,500 grant. For convenience features such as rear Park Distance Control (PDC), Seat Heating, Logo Projection, Driving Assistance Pack and Rear Camera, buyers will opt for the mid-level trim (£26,400 OTR including the Government grant) of the three available. If that still doesn't appeal, then the £30,400 (OTR including the Government grant) top level trim can provide all-round Park Distance Control, a Harmon Kardon sound system, Head-Up display, Panoramic Roof, Park Assist and Matrix LED lights.

The first orders will be delivered in the UK from March 2020.
